The issue of women rights is the critical concern for the women and children living in char areas of the country. There are evidences that socio-economic rights of poor and hard core poor women continue to be infringed at the char areas. Again, there are domestic violence against women and violation of their rights at the household level is very common and it is due to lack of awareness though they have the rights to know the information related to rights. The women have no access to, participation and decision making at the household and community as well. Again, they lack of access to decision making about food and expenditure of the households.
The char area is extremely poverty stricken and therefore, monga is the perennial problem over there for the poor and hard poor household. The reason poverty is the frequent flood. Every year several times flood affect the area and huge number of household go under the water and it damage assets, roads, community shelter, livestock’s and crops and adding new miseries and vulnerability in the lives of the people including women. During the flood the victims including women and children take shelter in safe places but they have to encounter many forms of insecurity including food. Having the provision of discrimination and disparity during the flood and disaster in food distribution most of the women and girls children found malnourished.
At that time, the sanitary situation deteriorate. Due to absence of latrine severely affecting the women health as they cannot use the open places like male members. The government and other service providers should extend sufficient support at that time but in most cases the support found insufficient. They do not get safe drinking water, food and shelter. The well off people and influential personnel take change to exploit them in different ways. The poor women and adolescent sometimes compel to sale sex to the influential.
The government and development actors should have sufficient knowledge regarding problems and miseries of the poor and hard core poor including women and children and well preparation to protect them.
