Problems facing the women and protection of their rights

Women Rights Human Rights issues and Social Justice are critical concern of the people of the northern region as well as in whole Bangladesh. It can be mentioned here that among the poor people of the country more than 30% hard core poor and their rights are frequently denied by the well off people. The main victims are actually poor and hard core poor  women who have no assets, power and dignity in the family and society. The extreme poor are disabled, beggar, isolated, separated, divorced, day laborer, family dependent on child labor, small ethnic/minorities and deprived.

Furthermore, there is evidence that women’s rights continue to be infringed at local level and it become the common scenario of the society. The poor and hard core poor women men are often unable to exercise their democratic rights. In the rural society the judicial system discriminates the women, as in the case of many of the fatwas’ issued at the rural areas. The judiciary’s response to serious attacks on women, including rape and family violence, which have become increasingly common throughout the region as well as in the whole country and  is often partial and so limits women’s access to justice.

The Poor, hard core poor, minorities and marginalised people of the rural community encounter the problems are as follows:

Knowledge and Awareness:
-    Lack of awareness and knowledge on human rights, social justice, women rights and legal issues, democratic principles, citizen’s role, fundamental rights, violation of  rights, duties and responsibilities of LEB related to rights, mediation, defending strategies, torture, repression etc

Community participation:
Poor community access to participation and decision making in Shalish, Village court and rights  based issues such as gathering, rallies, day observation, demonstration particularly by women and poor.

Considering priority of the people we need to address these problems related to knowledge, awareness building, community participation and other necessary issue related to women rights through interventions that will focus on contributing to the human rights issues particularly for the vulnerable women and foster participation.

Justification
-    There is evidence that women’s rights continue to be infringed at local level. Women are often unable to exercise their democratic rights and are effectively disenfranchised. Therefore, they need support to project their rights.

-    Women’s rights violation is very common in the society as well as in the family. This is happening due to lack of awareness. So, to protect their rights it needs to provide awareness.

-    Torture, Oppression, deprivation and rape are a regular matter but the women are not getting any support during the evidence. The proposed project will help the women during the evidence.

-    Women have in particular become vulnerable to an increase in crimes of domestic violence, sexual assault , trafficking, forced marriages social censure by farwas.

-    It has observed that the Poor women access to, participation and decision making in Shalish, Village court and rights  based issues such as gathering, rallies, day observation, demonstration particularly by women and poor. Therefore, women participation in the rights based activities needs to be increased for protecting their rights. The proposed project will ensure the women participation in rights based activities.

-    During Shalish and Village court the traditional community leaders impose their decision. This traditional power needs to be ceased the women empowerment.
