Problems Encountering by the poor people living remote part of Bangladesh

Development Organizations has been working in various the remote parts of the country, where most of the people are living under below poverty line. The working areas are mostly low-lying with marshy land and there are very limited employment and income earning opportunities leading a lion portion of the able manpower under or unemployed. In the remote areas about 50% people are poor and ultra poor and their essential requirements are to mitigate the food, shelter, household repairing, education, and health facilities.

Economic and social security including the Health facilities are the critical concern among the people of the working area. It is also remarkable that among the poor and ultra poor more than 60% are women.
The identified problems are categorized into below mentioned areas:

Social:

    Lack of awareness on rights, health, nutrition, socio-economic domination, and education, sanitation and hygiene practice

    Poor mobility among the women and not access to health services, Lack participation in development activities and Lack of participation in decision making process.

    Lack of knowledge on nutrition, health and sanitation facilities, access to health services and on hygiene practice including sanitation

    Lack of education facilities for working children

Economic:

Lack of job skills, income and employment opportunities, marketing facilities, food securities, access to resources, lack of decision making authority among the women about the expenditure of their own income and skills development initiatives for working children

Development Organizations seek to establish model villages at the working through addressing above problems encountering by the rural men, women and children. Development organizations perceived that with a view to address the above problems it would be required integrate the supports and facilities to mitigate the diversified needs of the Households. Again, it needs add here that key focus should be to life skills development on different feasible income generating activities in order to ensure the food security and ensure health facilities.  

Key Activities that may improve the situation are: Establishing Village Profile, Establishing village based People Organization (PO), Providing Skills Training, Establishing Marketing Channel, Awareness Raising through different ways like meeting with community people, courtyard session, door to door visit, observation, distributing IEC and BCC materials, Ensuring Financial supports, Providing Technical Assistance, Establishing Health Village and Establishing Village Based Health Center

Furthermore, to establish Health Village it needs to implement the activities are: the proposed project will also perform the following activities: Providing Latrine, Ensuring use of Latrine, Linkage building and  Advocacy and networking.
