Muhammed Zafar Iqbal

- A technological inspiration of Bangladesh 

Zafar Iqbal was born at December 23, 1952 who is a Scientist, science fiction book writer and most popular columnist of Bangladesh. Now, He is a professor of Computer Science and Engineering and EEE at SUST (Shahjalal University of Science and Technology). 

Educational Background :

Mr. Zafar Iqbal passed HSC in 1968 from Bogra Zilla School and passed HSC in 1970 from Dhaka College, Dhaka. After complete his BSc in Physics from DU (Dhaka University) in 1976, he came in University of Washington for PhD degree.  From 1983-1988, he worked California Institute of Technology as a post doctoral researcher. From 1988 to 1994, he worked at Bell communications Research.

Family :

Md. Zafar Iqbal Sir married with Yasmeen Haque in 1987 who is the departmental head of Physics at Shahjalal University of science and Technology. His son name Nabil and daughter Yesmin. Humayun Ahmend who is the famous writer and film maker is his elder brother. His younger brother is Ahsan Habib who is the editor of satirical magazine and also a cartoonist. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal’s father was a police officer named Foyzur Rahman. At the age of 7, he wrote his first book about Science fiction. On 5 May 1971, his father was killed by Pakistani army when going on the liberation war of Bangladesh.

Social Activity in Bangladesh :

After coming in Bangladesh, he starting working for the development of Bangladesh. Organize national mathematical Olympiad in Bangladesh with the help of BMO, Prothom-alo and Dutch Bangla Bank. Only for this kind of necessary step help Bangladeshi young stars to awake up. Day by day Bangladesh improve their rank in International Mathematical Olympiad. He is also working with BDoSN (Bangladesh open source network) which is developing the technology of Bangladesh. Trainee programmers for achieve best position at International programming contest like ACM-ICPC. People always waiting for next column of Zafar Iqbal at Prothom-alo which is a leading newspaper of Bangladesh.
